Defined Benefit Retirement Protection Fund, Inc.
The Defined Benefit Retirement Protection Fund was founded by three retired Miami Fire Fighters with the intent to educate the public about Defined Benefit Pensions. These three firefighters had spent their entire lives trying to improve and protect retirement benefits for fire fighters and were appalled at the negative press that was being spread by special interests and the media during the great recession and continued even when economic times improved.
Charles Hall, Don Teems, and Dan Givens founded the group in April of 2013 to combat the false information on a local, state and even national level. They felt it their job to fight back against those that would have people live in poverty in their retirement years by surviving on personal savings and social security. They did not accept that those that had sacrificed their blood, sweat and tears in the public safety arena should have to go back to work after retiring from the fire department just to make ends meet.
Since they organized the DBPF the group has grown to over 400 members and continues to grow each year. The group has increased its scope to also educate and protect the benefits of retirees other than pensions, including post retirement health insurance.
